Mobile Trends to Look Out For in 2019

As competition between tech giants intensifies, mobile innovation is accelerating at a rapid pace and becoming more advanced than ever. Here are 4 trends set to disrupt the mobile landscape in the coming year.

5G network

The arrival of the fifth generation phone network is just around the corner. With the impending launch of 5G, consumers are eager to experience ultra-fast internet connectivity and more reliable video streaming at a higher quality. But the possibilities are endless with many speculating how the network will be able to power self-driving cars, virtual reality and further advancements in automation technologies.

Foldable phones

2019 will be the year of foldable phones. Technological development behind the foldable screens is already underway with many leading brands like Google, Samsung, Huawei and others taking part. It comes as no surprise that these smartphones will come at a premium cost, so the hardest challenge once these phones are ready for sale is to convince consumers why it’s a necessity.

On-demand apps

2018 saw the explosion of on-demand apps for transport, food delivery and entertainment streaming. As on-demand services such as Uber, Deliveroo and Netflix continue to be one of the most popular app types to use worldwide, on-demand apps are expected to grow in the coming year with new efficiencies to deliver more variety, more convenience and comfort for the consumer.

In-display fingerprint scanners

In-display or under-display fingerprint scanners were first introduced by tech giant vivo. Fingerprint sensors embedded in the display allows smartphones to have edge-to-edge displays and reduced bezels. 2019 is expected to see 100 million smartphones with in-display fingerprint screens reach store shelves, 10 times more than the 9 million forecasted in 2018.

Yes, although I would say technology needs to plateau for a while, I can see a sensibility in getting rid of the tv, the laptop and the ipad for the convenience of a more portable , multi-performing product.

Have your say
