About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a vibrant and exciting company that is a leading provider of voice, data and software services for residential, business and wholesale customers.

The Systems Engineer role is responsible for the high quality operation, maintenance, support and expansion of the company's global assets, being highly focused on the area of IP networks whilst helping to ensure that in-house corporate IT functions (approx. 20% of role) perform optimally in our demanding environment.

Key Functions of the role include:

  • Network Operations – Responsible for the operation of the company's global network assets Network
  • Network Support – As a subject matter expert in the company's network you are expected to provide high level (Level 2) support to our customers and our other internal teams as required
  • Corporate Support for staff
  • Communications support – Managing the health and the operations of our corporate communications infrastructure
  • Access management – Managing access of corporate facilities and services
  • Managing IT assets
  • Technologies of note:  Linux, Microsoft technologies (Server 2003-2012, SQL Server 2005-2008, Exchange 2007, Active Directory, SCCM, etc), TCP/IP, MySQL, VMware, Cisco IOS, perl, python, shell scripting
  • Vendor Management – Liaise with 3rd Party Support partners and vendors as well as helping to maintain those relationships
  • Team input – Participate in architecture decisions from both a hardware and software aspect while helping to ensure that system documentation is applicable and up to date
  • Availability – As a member of the technical team with experience and expertise in the network systems of the company, you are expected to be available after-hours from time to time:
    • For planned works as required by the company on a reasonable basis
    • For unplanned works or emergency technical support you are required to respond as required
    • To ensure appropriate skills and experience coverage of the network systems, an on-call roster may be implemented by the manager of the team requiring a defined response time at various times
    • The after-hours responsibilities will be shared by all team members to ensure that nobody is unfairly called upon during after-hours times

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • A minimum 12 months systems and network engineering experience required
  • Previous experience in a telecommunications network engineering role
  • Experience with networking architecture and internet protocols
  • Strong technical knowledge of PC and desktop hardware
  • Strong technical knowledge of PC internal components
  • Minimum 2 years' experience on Microsoft windows systems administrations
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Microsoft Exchange Server & Domain Controller
  • Minimum 2 years' help desk experience
  • Good knowledge of Cisco wifi controllers and data networking will be looked upon favourably
  • MSCE certified will be looked upon favourably
